This year, we’re not only back in-person, but it marks the 20th anniversary of our essential seminar on Special Needs Trust Administration. Over the past two decades, this program has provided families, trustees, and professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complexities of trust management while safeguarding the quality of life of individuals with disabilities. Join us for an in-depth seminar designed for families, trustees, and professionals involved in the administration of Special Needs Trusts. This program will provide both a foundational overview and practical strategies to help ensure trusts are managed effectively while protecting the beneficiary’s quality of life and access to critical supports.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Guiding principles and the strategic nature of special needs planning
  • Overview of special needs trusts and trustee responsibilities
  • Fiduciary duties, conflict avoidance, and building an effective trust management team
  • Trustee options: family, professional, corporate, and non-profit, including co-trustee arrangements
  • The roles of trust advisors, advisory committees, and trust protectors
  • Government benefits: federal income benefits, health insurance coverage, and community-based supports
  • Navigating MassHealth programs such as AFC, PCA, OneCare, ACO, and SCO
  • Advocacy tools for trustees, including working with guardians, support brokers, and providers
  • Common issues requiring advocacy and practical strategies for resolution
  • Residential support options, including the use of accessory dwelling units
  • Annual budgeting, accounting, and retaining legal counsel when needed
  • The role of the trust administrator in promoting beneficiary well-being

This seminar will combine legal, financial, and practical insights to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complexities of trust administration and advocacy in support of individuals with disabilities.

In-person attendees will receive a hot breakfast along with a snack at the break.
