Fletcher Tilton employee Jenny Varnet had an excellent weekend at the MA Special Olympics!

Despite the cold and rainy conditions in Boston, Jenny won the following:

  • Gold in 4x50m Relay
  • Gold in 50m Butterfly
  • Silver in 50m Freestyle

Jenny has participated in the MA Special Olympics in both Tennis and Swimming since 1993. Prior to that, she competed in the IL Special Olympics since age 23. She’s now 57.

Jenny developed a love for swimming as a young child due to the encouragement of her mentor, Jane Staples. Her love for tennis comes from her dad, who coached tennis for years. Several years ago, due to cutbacks, Special Olympics limited participation to one sport, and Jenny chose swimming.

This year’s 2 golds and 1 silver was the best she’s done. She has consistently earned gold or silver in the butterfly for many years. A few years back, she was heartbroken to be disqualified in the butterfly as she didn’t hit the end of the pool with both hands. Since then, she hits the end of the pool with a hard two-handed slap!

Hannah Lynch attended the event with her sister, Molly, to cheer Jenny on.

Make sure to congratulate Jenny next time you see her in the office!
